Piloting his Mercedes GT3, Verstappen set an impressive 7m 51s lap, two seconds faster than his closest competitors. However, a ‘code 60’ incident late in the session prevented rivals from mounting a challenge, as they were forced to reduce speed to 60 km/h in a specific section.
Reflecting on his achievement, Verstappen stated, “I was a bit lucky with the traffic, and I believe it was my only lap without a code 60. The car feels good, even though I still need to gain more experience with it. Friday was a very positive day, and the sunny weather was a nice bonus. I truly love GT3 cars, and the prospect of driving a 24-hour race here – having watched so many – is incredibly special. The sensation of driving on this circuit is always unique.”
Looking forward to the race, Verstappen hopes for a victory but recognizes areas for adaptation. “Pit stops and driver changes are different from Formula 1, so I need more experience in that regard,” he explained. When asked if he would start the race, he replied, “We’ll see!”
